Michael Phelps Car Accident

Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps was involved in an car accident in his hometown of Baltimore, MD on Thursday evening luckily, the swimmer was not injured.

At the crash scene, a police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told the reporters the two cars a Cadillac Escalade and a Honda Accord were collided about 9 p.m. Thursday night and Phelps was driving one of the cars. An unidentified woman who was behind the wheel of the Honda was taken to the hospital as she suffered minor injuries.

Police spokesman Guglielmi said as a standard procedure, the authorities would investigate that whether alcohol was involved in the crash or not. He said that the possibilities of alcohol involvement were rare in Phelps’ crash.

George Sodini in LA Fitness Shooting

The gunman who opened fire at the LA Fitness center in Bridgeville, Collier Township, Pennsylvania has been identified as George Sodini. Police said, the 48 year old Sodini was a member of the gym, entered an aerobics class where 20 female members were working out six people including Sodini and 12 people wounded. He reportedly turned off the lights and fired 50 rounds into the crowded room.

After the shooting, Sodini lay dead on top of a gun near one of his victims. Sources told the Pittsburgh Gazette Soldini's girlfriend was among the dead.

Six People Dead in LA Fitness Shooting

At least six people are confirmed dead after shooting incident at the LA Fitness center in Bridgeville, Collier Township, Pennsylvania. According to reports, a man entered the LA fitness center with a gym bag he turned off the light and began opening fire killing instantly six people and wounding 12 others. Victims are mostly women who were there in the gym for their workout. Some witness described the shooter as a middle age, white male.

The Allegheny County police reported that they were only notified thru phone that someone was there at the gym and killing many people.

Former President Corazon Aquino Died at 76

Former President of the Philippines Corazon “Cory” Aquino died early Saturday at the age of 76 after battling colon cancer. Cory Aquino was known for her world-renowned advocate of democracy, peace, women's empowerment, and religious piety. She served as the 11th president of the Philippines from 1986 to 1992. She was the first female president of the Philippines and was Asia's first female president.

A self-proclaimed "plain housewife", Aquino was married to Senator Benigno Aquino, Jr. (1932–1983), a leading figure in the political opposition against the autocratic rule of President Ferdinand Marcos. After her husband was assassinated upon his return from exile in the United States on August 21, 1983, Aquino, who had no prior political experience, became a focal point and unifying force of the opposition against Marcos. She was drafted to run against Marcos in the 1986 snap presidential elections. After Marcos was proclaimed the winner despite widespread reports of electoral fraud, Aquino was installed as President by the peaceful 1986 People Power Revolution.

Aquino was diagnosed with advanced colon cancer last year and confined to a Manila hospital for more than a month. Her son said the cancer had spread to other organs and she was too weak to continue her chemotherapy. Supporters have been holding daily prayers for Aquino in churches in Manila and throughout the country for a month. TV stations on Saturday were running footage of Aquino’s years together with prayers while her former aides and supporters offered condolences.

UFC Fighter Kim “Kimo” Leopoldo Died

Former UFC fighter Kim “Kimo” Leopoldo reportedly died from complications from a heart attack at the age of 41. The UFC legend, whose last fight was in October 2006, had a history of drug abuse throughout his career and had been arrested for domestic violence, assault and battery.

Kimo was known for his cool tats, odd religious displays, and for being super tough. Kimo will be remembered for carrying a huge cross into the ring when he was to fight Hall of Fame legend Royce Gracie.

Kimo won six of his next seven bouts fighting primarily for the UFC and PRIDE. He last fought in October 2006, when he suffered a first-round TKO loss to Wes Sims at an Extreme Wars show.

Who is Kristin Butler?

Kristin Butler recently became the top winner of The National Society of Newspaper Columnists Educational Foundation Scholarship contest, announced on April 24th. Editor and Publisher published an article about it. Surprisingly, the Chronicle opted not to report it in Monday’s paper, though they were notified, but we are posting it here nonetheless.

Two of the judges had this to say about Butler and her work:

Goodman commented: “A good combination of reporting and opinion with a tough look at her own administration. Liked the variety as well, from health care to stripping!”

Suzette Martinez Standring, a preliminary judge, also commented on Butler. “Articulate and well-researched columns on social justice topics. Her Voice and point of view is one to be reckoned with.”

“I’m thrilled by the Society’s decision, and grateful for the opportunity to visit New Orleans and interview Katrina victims this June,” said Butler.

Boxer Arturo Gatti Found dead

A 37 year-old Canadian boxer Arturo Gatti was found dead last Saturday, July 11 in Porto de Galinhas while he was on vacation along with her wife Amanda Rodrigues and son. Gatti had a career boxing record of 40-9 (31 KOs). His most famous serious of fights were the three he had against Micky Ward, in which he won two of them.

Disney Monorail Crash Video

A 21-year old Walt Disney World monorail driver Austin Wuennenberg was killed when two trains collided as visitors were leaving the theme park. The monorail trains collided around 2 a.m. Sunday at the Transportation and Ticket Center, located at the parking lot of the Magic Kingdom, according to Walt Disney World.

Former NFL Steve Mcnair Killed

Former NFL quarterback player Steve Mcnair of the Titans has been killed. Police said McNair suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head in downtown Nashville Saturday afternoon.

McNair, 36, retired in April 2008 after 13 seasons in the league with the Houston Oilers, which later became the Titans, and Baltimore Ravens. He shared the 2003 most valuable player award with the Indianapolis Colts’ Peyton Manning.

Python Killed the 2-Year Old Baby

A 12 foot Burmese Python who broke out from its aquarium killed a 2 year old baby in her bedroom Wednesday at a central Florida home. The two year-old girl was already dead when deputies arrived on the scene.

Charles Jason Darnell, the boyfriend of the little girl (Shaiunna’s) mother, said he woke up and saw the Burmese python was not in its aquarium. He went to the child’s room and found the snake wrapped around the little girl in her crib.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission initiated an investigation into how the snake killed baby Shaiunna. Reports indicate that Darnell did not have a permit for the python snake which is required by state law as a Burmese Python is classified as a Reptile of Concern.

I just hope that it serves as a wakeup call for anyone that owns, or is thinking about owning a potentially dangerous snake. Please do your research and take the responsibility seriously. If you know a pet may be dangerous in certain situations, then you as an owner have the duty to take all the reasonable steps you can to make sure that situation does not happen.

Karl Malden Died at the Age of 97

Academy Award-winning actor Karl Malden died in his sleep at about 2:30 a.m. in his home in Brentwood, Los Angeles on Wednesday at the age of 97.

Malden was honored with Life Achievement Awards at the Temecula Valley International Film Festival in 1998 and the Screen Actors Guild Awards of 2004. Karl Malden’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame can be found at 6231 Hollywood Boulevard.

He was known for the television series “The Streets of San Francisco” in the 1970s and was the American Express Traveler’s Check spokesperson. He also served as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences president from 1989-92.

A Warren resident Linda Morgan won $250,000 for matching five numbers in the June 26 Mega Millions’ drawing a second-tier Ohio Lottery prize on the same day she was training an employee on the lottery machine.

Usually, Morgan said, she doesn’t buy Mega Millions tickets but purchased the leftover ticket, she manages Lottery News Connection, 8280 E. Market Street.

Husalah died after he was allegedly stabbed 5 times in jail. Husalah is a original member of Mob Figas and he was very popular in the West Coast underground. Ed Mcmahon died at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center due to multitude of health problems, including cancer. Mcmahon was the loyal "Tonight" show sidekick who bolstered boss Johnny Carson with guffaws and a resounding "H-e-e-e-e-e-ere's Johnny!" for 30 years.

Metro Train Crash

Two Metro trains was collided during rush hour on Monday leaving 6 people dead including the female operator of the trailing train and more than 70 injuries. The crash between two inbound trains occurred under the New Hampshire Avenue overpass, just north of Fort Totten station.
